![]() Yorke, or the narrator, cuts himself off before telling the listener he is going to die, saying “No matter what happens now / You shouldn’t be afraid / Because I know today has been / The most perfect day I’ve ever seen”. The topic is very tragic especially in the second verse. The song tells the narrator’s story, living on through videotape after he dies, but even a videotape will become obsolete eventually. The repetition becomes more chaotic and out of sync, mimicking the lyrics. This effect was included to eventually emulate the sound of a tape reel spinning. One of the most interesting features of the song is how what starts out as a single drum hit, exponentially delays more and more throughout the length of the song. In the end, it was decided that the stripped studio version is what would be most appropriate for the album. Originally, the band’s intention with this track was to incorporate a lot of different ideas and elements into something extravagant. ![]() The final track on In Rainbows, “Videotape” is a beautifully bare song. ![]()
